In the first part you learned how you can leverage the SAP NetWeaver BW on SAP HANA trial to start your very own SAP BW and BI4 system and in the second part you learned how you can create a relational Universe (UNX) based on your SAP NetWeaver BW InfoProvider.
Today we will focus on using SAP Lumira in combination with the previously created Universe and how we then can share the data with SAP BusinessObjects Explorer and SAP Lumira Cloud.
- Start SAP Lumira by following the menu Start • Programs • SAP Business Intelligence • SAP Lumira • SAP Lumira.
- Select the menu File • New.
- Select the option Download from a Universe.
- Click Next.
- Logon to the SAP BusinessObjects BI system with the following details:
CMS Name : SBOP4
Authentication Type: SAP
User Name : BWH~001/DEMO
Password : Welcome! - Click Connect.
- You can now select the Universe. In our example it’s the Universe with the name BW_BUSINESS_LAYER.
- Click Next.
- You can now activate the checkboxes next to the objects that you would like to use. In our example we are going to use:
Characteristics :
- Country
- GIS-Region
- Sold-To-Party
- Product Group
- Product Category
- Product
Measures:
- Net Value
- Costs
If you look at the screenshot above you will notice that the description values - such as the short, medium, and long text - are Details in the Universe (green symbol). The dimension objects (blue symbol) represent the key values. for our example I will use the detail objects (Heading) for the characteristics.
- Activate the option Preview and Select Data.
- Click Create.
- Before we continue, please ensure that all proxy settings have been removed from the menu File • Preferences • Network
- Click Create.
- Add the measure Net Value to the Primary Value under Measures.
- Click on the Options for dimension Country.
- Select the menu Create a geographic hierarchy • by Names.
- Use dimension Country for the Country level and dimension GIS-Region for the Region level.
- Click Confirm and click OK to confirm the assignments for now.
- Now set the chart type to a Geo Pie Chart.
- Add your newly created geographic hierarchy to the Geo Features attribute.
- Add dimension Product Category to the Geo Feature Analysis attribute.
- You can zoom into the map now to see the details.
- Navigate to the dimension Country on the left hand side and click on the options.
- Select the menu option The filter is…
- Select the entry United States and click Add.
- Close the dialog screen.
- Now set the level of the map to Region on the Geo Features attribute.
- Looks like we are selling a lot more Laptops in Kentucky than anywhere else. So we are looking to share the information now.
- Click Save (bottom right)
- Click on Share in the toolbar.
- You can now publish the data set to HANA or Explorer, you can publish the data to Lumira Cloud, to Streamwork or send it via eMail.
- Click on Publish Dataset to Explorer.
- Enter your credentials:

- You can also go to the menu Applications • Explorer and the Information Space will be listed.
- Navigate back to SAP Lumira.
- This time use the option Publish to Lumira Cloud.

At this point we used the data from SAP BW with SAP Lumira, published it to Explorer and SAP Lumira Cloud.
Why are Explorer and Lumira Cloud relevant ? – because by using Explorer and Lumira Cloud you can share the information via mobile devices.
In the next blog we will take a look at the new feature of story boards in SAP Lumira using the data from SAP BW and we will discuss the limitations of a relational Universe with SAP NetWeaver BW.
